Vietnam's weather can vary quite significantly due to the cities' locations or altitudes.
When I was there in December, the weather was cold in the north, mild in central and warm in the south.
If you are planning to visit from north to south like me, do take note of the tips below.
Day backpack packing list
- day backpack (big enough for jacket and all the stuffs here)
- digital camera with video function (preferably water resistant)
- lip balm
- masks (disposable)
- medicines/first aid
- phone with panorama mode (preferably water resistant)
- powerbank and charging cable
- raincoat (disposable)
- snacks/energy bars
- umbrella
- water bottle
Clothings
North (if you are hiking up the mountains, as temperature can be single digit)
- jacket (thermal, water repellent and with hoodie)
- sweater
- long johns
- gloves
- shoes (trekking ones if you intend to go hiking e.g. lao than mountain)
- socks (woollen)
North (at sea level)
- jacket (preferably thermal, water repellent and with hoodie)
- shoes

Central

- summer clothings!

- Google Translate- to translate to and from Vietnamese

BusMap (covers bus services in Bin Duong, Binh Phuoc, Can Tho, Da Nang, Dong Nai, Hanoi (download separate Bus Map Hanoi app) , Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc.
Functions included Lookup, Navigation, Stations Map and Bus Ticket.

Grocery / Local Snacks Shopping
If you need to buy any groceries e.g. beer, chips, etc. or local food produce back home, you can drop by a Co.opmart or Co.opXtra. Such local supermarkets would sell the items at local prices and not at tourist prices.
