Kepulauan Seribu (Thousand Islands)- Pulau Tidung and Pulau Pramuka, Indonesia
Plan your travel adventure to Kepulauan Seribu (Thousand Islands)- Pulau Tidung and Pulau Pramuka, Indonesia
Kepulauan Seribu, which literally means Thousand Islands, is an archipelago located north of Jakarta, Indonesia. Although the name suggests that there are a thousand islands, the actual number is about 100. Some of the islands are popular for their coral reefs, pristine beaches and rich marine life, making them ideal getaways from busy Jakarta.
The popular islands include Pulau Tidung and Pulau Pramuka.
Pulau Tidung
Pulau Tidung, sometimes nicknamed the Maldives of the East, consists of 2 islands- Tidung Besar (Big Tidung) and Tidung Kecil (Small Tidung).
There is a main street stretching from east to west and there are homestays, eateries, houses and shops lining it.
Tidung Besar is more populated of the two, with a population of about 6,000 and it is where most of the accommodations, shops and tourist facilities like bicycle rentals and water sports are located while Tidung Kecil (Small Tidung) is mostly uninhabited and visited for its peaceful atmosphere and natural surroundings.
Connecting the 2 islands is the 700-metre Jembatan Cinta (Bridge of Love) which is the signature landmark of the island. It is a wooden bridge where you can enjoy the views, take photos and even jump into the clear water below.
At dawn, you can stroll to the eastern end of Tidung Besar to the bridge to see sunrise and cross over to Tidung Kecil to enjoy nature. At dusk, you can rent a bicycle and pedal to the western end of the island where you can enjoy the beauty of sunset at the beach, against the Java sea and Mount Krakatoa in the distance.
